Skeen Furniture was founded by my great grandparents Ivan and Elizabeth Skeen, who opened a small furniture store at 321 S. Canyon. Things were much different then. Used furniture was much easier to acquire during those times. They also made mattresses in the original building, which were sewn by Elizabeth Skeen herself. Later, in the early 1970’s, Kelly Skeen- my grandfather- purchased the old Sears building (Now 301 S. Canyon). He expanded the family business , offering the latest brands. Skeen Furniture was the first LA-Z-BOY dealer in New Mexico. He brought brands to Carlsbad that most would only find in larger cities. “Value and Service” continued to be the focus of the family business. After his passing , my grandmother Martha Skeen and later my father Curtis Skeen continued the business. While lots has changed in the furniture business, we continue to offer the latest brands and quality and service that you don’t find in stores today. It is very important to us that every customer who walks in the doors has a pleasant experience, feels at home, and finds the quality and price they are looking for. Aesthetics play an important part in a person’s mood and mental health. It’s important to us that we can help a customer achieve the environment of their dreams.

We are active in our community through several organizations including the Rotary Club of Carlsbad and Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. We financially support various school sports, band, and choir. We were chosen as Chamber members of the month in 2015, and have been featured in Focus Magazine as “ Business Spotlight” in 2019 and 2023.

Stacey Cooper
Owner/Operator

Stacey Cooper is the fourth-generation owner/operator. She comes from a long background of retail sales and design. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Texas Tech University. Her focus has always been furniture and residential design, with almost 30 years of experience in the design industry and many years training under her late father Curtis Skeen. Not only does she understand the business, but she is also passionate about finding the best quality of furniture and accessories for Carlsbad and the surrounding areas.

Debbie Spaulding

Store Manager & Mechandiser

Debbie Spaulding has been with Skeen Furniture for two years. She has many years of retail sales and management experience. She has served in several roles at Skeen Furniture. As the store manager she oversees daily operations, manages customer care and supports the sales team. Debbie’s excellent
customer service and attention to detail is an important part of the stores success.

Pam Harkness

Sales Associate

Pam has been with Skeen Furniture for 1 year. She has years of retail sales experience. The furniture business is new to her. However, she is a quick learner and has found her niche in working with customers on detailed special orders. She is excellent with customers and works hard to help a customer find exactly what they need. She is also very savvy on the computer and helps with social media content!

Alicia Davis

Sales Associate

With over 7 years of experience in retail sales, primarily in womens fashion. Alicia brings a strong foundation in customer service. She is excited to help customers find exactly what they are looking for. Though she is new to the furniture industry, she is excited to apply her passion for helping clients create beautiful and comfortable space they love to come home to.

Clara Mitchell

Sales Associate

Clara has been with Skeens for 4 years. She has had the opportunity to serve as our intern for High School. Clare has perfected decorating anything you ask her to. She is very helpful with the set up of our Annual Christmas Shoppe. You may see her upstairs in the Christmas shop during the Christmas season.

Emily Ganaway

Sales Associate

Has worked with Skeens for about 4 years. She has been a great help in our Christmas Shoppe. She is very helping with setting up our annual Christmas Shoppe. She You may see her in the Christmas shoppe during the Christmas season.
